Diamonds are one of the rarest rock in the world. It is the hardest rock making them to be one of the most expensive rocks in the world.
Diamonds are a natural crystalline carbon that is transparent.
Diamonds are known for their superlative physical qualitie, especially their hardness. The word "diamond" is derived from a Greek word which also means "impossible to tame."
A crystal made up of 99.95% pure carbon atoms arranged in an isometric, or cubic, crystal arrangement. It is because of this unique arrangement of the carbon atoms that makes the diamonds look and behave differently from other pure carbon minerals such as graphite (the soft black material used to make pencils).
These diamonds have been compressed for million of years and they have a rating of a 10 on the Mohs Scale; they are mined in the rough form and then they are cut and polished in order to reveal their full brilliance and sparkle potential. Diamonds are highly desirable because it is very difficult to produce a multi faceted diamonds. When diamonds are well cut, they can reflect light and sparkle to the naked eye making them to appear highly brilliant.
Ever heard the popular saying "Diamond is a Girl's Best Friend..?"
Well most women love diamonds. Myself for example. Why do we love diamond? Is it because it is rare...that is one thing. Most women love to buy things that are hard to get. Even though a cubic zirconia looks exactly the same as any regular diamond, why don't women simply buy Cubic Zircon? Many of us, when we buy a diamond, we might want to buy it as an investment hoping we can resell it later to get probably a larger diamond ...:)
That is most true in many cases. When we buy a diamond which has GOOD qualities, it's easier to resell later as GOOD quality diamonds appreciate every year.
On the other hand, if you buy a diamond that has a so so quality, it's not going to be easy to resell it in the future.
For example a diamond with a clarity ranging from IF to VS2 and a color ranging from D to F appreciates almost 10% each year.
So the quality of a diamond plays a major role when trying to resell it in the future.
