Diamonds' certificate is a piece of paper that accompany some diamonds. The certificates themselves do not make the diamonds. The diamonds characteristics are what made the certificates. Just think of the certificates as a birth certificates. The certificates will describe the 4 C's of the diamonds and along with other characteristics.
While diamond gradings is considered an art, the values do vary from one eye to another eye.
Diamond laboratories such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and AGSL (American Gemological Society Laboratory) employ some of the most renowned scientists and gemologists to grade on diamonds.
These diamonds that bear GIA's and AGSL's certification are graded strictly and more accurately. However it does not mean that diamonds from other diamond laboratories are bad, they might be less strict when grading the diamonds, thus reducing the quality of the diamonds.
No one diamond is alike, everyone of them are different and in recent studies results have shown that many diamonds that have been graded before and being resent for another grading do offer in terms of qualities.
For example, a diamond with a GIA certificate with a D color and VVS1 clarity can bear a different result even though the same exact diamond are being resent for them to evaluate. This simply means that grading values do vary from eyes to eyes.
Remember this though, when purchasing a diamond, please do ample research and if needs be, bring the copy of the certificate to an independent appraisals as they are likely to be less biased when grading the diamonds.
Especially when you are spending quite a sum of money to buy a diamond, plan ahead. Shop around and always know what you are buying.
This little time you set aside researching the diamond you are going to buy will save you money in the long run.
